Once you purchase Starter Pack A or B, the first step is the consultation, where you will meet with a trainer in order to gather the information necessary to design a program specific to your fitness needs. 

Your physical health, exercise history, goals and eating habits are all important topics to discuss during this process. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have.

With information gathered in the consultation, we design a program tailored specifically for you. At this point, you and your trainer will book 1-on-1 sessions to start implementing your plan. We show you how to warm up and cool down, teach proper form, discuss appropriate intensity, and much more. We also provide motivation, encouragement and constructive feedback.

Personal training is open to Dalplex members, Dalhousie students, and individuals purchasing Day/Multi-visit passes.

How to get started

Decide what goals you want to achieve

Contact the Fitness Coordinator (fitness@dal.ca or 902-494-3017) to discuss your goals and availability. The Fitness Coordinator will pair you up with a trainer, and then you can book your initial consultation.

Prior to your consultation you can purchase a Starter Package (Consultation + 3 sessions OR Consultation + 5 sessions).

Book a consultation session (what it is, why you need it, what to expect)

You can book sessions with your trainer as often as you like. Whether it's once a week, once a month, or every 6-8 weeks to make adjustments to your customized program.

Note: All new clients must start with a package that includes a consultation.

FAQs

What you Need to Know

1. Can a non-member purchase personal training?
Yes, but they are required to purchase a Day Pass to enter the facility for each personal training session. OR they can purchase a multi-visit pass and use a punch each time they come in for a session.

2. Are consultations required and what does it entail? 
Consultations are required for all new clients, so you need to start with either our Consultation + 3 session package or Consultation + 5 session package. 

Consultations are a 60min session with the trainer where they review your needs, goals, health history, etc. And complete movement/fitness assessments with you. They will then use all this information to build your customized plan. 

3. Can I speak with the trainer prior to booking a consult? 
You can speak with the Fitness Coordinator and briefly with the trainer prior to purchasing. Contact the Fitness Coordinator for further details. 

4. For 2-on-1 training, does each person purchase their own package? 
Yes, pricing is done per person. Each person in the group must purchase a package to be used with the group. 

5. If someone already had a consultation with a trainer but wanted to switch trainers, do they need to redo the consultation, or can the trainers exchange the consult notes?
No, the consultation does not need to be redone. If the client does not find the trainer a good match, contact the Fitness Coordinator so they can re-assign you a trainer and ensure that all information is transferred to make it a seamless transition. 

6. How long is the consultation valid for?

Consultations are valid indefinitely. If you take an extended period away from training and your health status has changed, a new consultation may be required. For more information, contact the Fitness Coordinator. 

7. Do personal training sessions expire? 
No, personal training sessions do not expire. 
You are eligible for a pro-rated refund on your package for up to 1 year of your original purchase date. After 1 year, sessions will not expire and can be used with a trainer at any time, however, they will no longer be eligible for a refund.
