What is FCAMPT?

At the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Clinic, we have two physiotherapists with the CAMPT designation. But what does that mean?

Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT) is awarded to physiotherapists in Canada who have advanced training and clinical abilities in orthopedic assessment and manual or manipulative therapeutic treatment techniques. Awarded by the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists, this designation can take 5-6 years to achieve and requires PTs to complete an exam. Approx. 5% of Nova Scotian physiotherapists have this designation.

FCAMPT training improves the physiotherapist's ability to:

  1. Identify, understand, and treat a wide range of injuries and diseases.
  2. Use hands-on assessment and treatment techniques that can improve accuracy and results.
  3. Integrate research into assessment and treatment, making treatment and results more consistent.
  4. Think globally about injuries, including what they do to function and their impact on daily life.
  5. Think globally about diseases, not just be focused on what hurts, but what led to the pain, what healing and recovery can be expected, how long healing will take, and what the impact will be long term on joints, nerves, organs, balance, coordination, medications, etc.
  6. Perform joint manipulations as a treatment technique.

At the DPC, both Rhonda and Kyle already have this designation, and the rest of the team is working towards it!
