Student Trainer Program

The Dalhousie Student Athletic Trainer Program (DATP) aims to provide students with an abundance of opportunity to develop practical skills in sideline assessment, care and injury prevention for high performance athletes. Within a collaborative and supportive environment, students build hands-on experience while refining their professionalism, mentorship and leadership skills in a team format.

The goal of the Dalhousie Student Athletic Trainer Program is to create a mutually beneficial environment where athletes receive continuous support in practice and competition, whether at home or on the road. Simultaneously, program members develop valuable skills and build networks that enhance their preparation and success in future healthcare careers.

Best Practice

The DATP will apply best practice in the student athletic training program by fostering evidence-based care, professionalism and continuous learning. The DPC is committed to developing competent, ethical, and compassionate students with interest in becoming future health care professionals. These students will prioritize athlete care/safety, well-being, and performance while working within their scope of practice.

Teamwork

The DATP embraces the individuality of our clinic staff, the Dalhousie community, and the wider Halifax community to provide a foundation for strong, meaningful, and impactful relationships through communications and trust.

Professionalism

The DATP strives to provide students with the opportunity to develop their professionalism skills in a team oriented healthcare setting that champions respect, active listening, self-awareness, and consideration for others.

Diversity & Inclusion

The DATP is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all individuals, regardless of background, identity, or experience, are valued and supported. We embrace the diverse perspectives and experiences of our students, staff, and athletes, recognizing that this diversity enhances both the quality of education and the care provided to athletes. Our program prioritizes creating a space where respect, equity, and inclusion are fundamental in every interaction, ensuring that athletes receive culturally competent and holistic care.
