Posted by Angela on December 14, 2021 in Current News

UPDATE December 16, 2021: The fieldhouse will open for appointments on Friday, December 17. One baskteball hoop and one badminto court will NOT be available until all of the exam desks and chairs have been removed from the building (TBA).

Valued Dalplex members, students and community,

As you may have heard, Nova Scotia Public Health recently announced the return of some restrictions to combat recent COVID-19 outbreaks and the threat of the new Omicron variant in the province. Physical distancing in fitness facilities is one of those restrictions, which will result in Dalplex (fitness hall, pool and courts) and Sexton Gym (fitness centre) bringing back appointments starting at 6:00am on Friday, December 17, 2021 until at least January 2022.

Members will be able to start booking appointments 72 hours in advance starting Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 12:00pm.

Fitness Hall

  • Appointments will be available in one-hour increments with a 15-minute changeover period.
  • A total of 60 spaces will be available per appointment with 34 pieces of cardio equipment and 45 strength and conditioning machines in addition to dumbbell stations.
  • Spotting and working out in partners/groups is not permitted.
  • Masks are required except while exercising.
  • To ensure physical distancing, some equipment will not be available. We ask that you only use equipment that is open and do not try to use equipment we have sectioned off.

  • The pool will be set up for lane swimming only: short course with up to sixteen (16) twenty-five metre lanes available at a time.
  • 30 to 60-minute appointment times will be available with a maximum of two (2) people per lane – no exceptions.
  • There will be no buffer lanes.
  • Family swims are temporarily suspended.

Dalhousie has cancelled the remainder of most of its in-person exams. We hope to be able to provide additional details very soon on when the fieldhouse will reopen. Once open, appointments will resume for badminton and will once again be required for basketball courts for up to two (2) people per 60-minute appointment.

Fitness Classes

  • The size of fitness classes will shrink to:
    • SPIN – 10 people per class
    • Yoga – 16 people per class
    • All other classes – 14 people per class

The Rock Court

  • Appointments will be required when it reopens January 4, 2022.

  • Appointments will be available in one-hour increments with a 15-minute changeover period.

  • Holiday hours are in effect. Sexton Gym will be closed beginning December 24, 2021 and re-opens January 2, 2022.

All facility rentals for Dalhousie athletics and recreation facilities will continue provided they adhere to mask and physical distancing requirements and abide by the gathering limits imposed by the province.

  • Saunas are closed.
  • Noon hoops is cancelled.
  • The sale of and redemption of day and multi-visit passes is temporarily suspended.
  • Towel and locker services continue to be available.

As always, we thank you for making Dalplex and/or Sexton Gym your athletic and recreation facility of choice and hope you have a safe and happy holiday.
