Emily Coolen, ISSA-CPT

Emily has a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Dalhousie University and has five years of personal training experience. She is passionate about the importance of fitness and strength training for older adults. She enjoys helping individuals improve their quality of life, recover from injury, and gain independence.

She works with clients of all ages and fitness levels to help them achieve their goals, whether they are sport-related, health-related, or anything in between.

Carrie MacGillivray, NSCA-CPT

Carrie has over 20 years of experience in the fitness industry. She is an experienced competitive hockey coach, coaching both male and female youth. She is a former marathon runner, and a current recreational runner.

Carrie loves working with beginners, people dealing with anxiety and/or depression, women in menopause, older adults, weight loss clients, and those who simply need a change in workout routine.



Brett Armstrong, NSCA-CSCS

Brett is a strength and conditioning coach with Dalhousie Athletics. He works with diverse clients, prescribing exercise that develops fundamental movement skills. Developing these skills helps reduce pain and neuromuscular dysfunction and improves the performance of daily living activities. Brett works with both high performance athletes and the general population to reduce movement impairment and improve physical capacity in their transition from rehabilitation into performance.

Over the last three years Brett’s work has included athlete program development, testing, and coaching for NCAA, U SPORTS, and amateur elite athletes, as well as adults. 



Anne Campbell, CSEP-CPT

Anne has 20 years of experience as a personal trainer, working with athletes to enhance their performance. She uses a holistic mind/body approach to fitness and post-rehab programming to build strength and balance from the inside out. Anne also works with individuals pre- and post-natal, who want to lose weight, with osteoporosis, and postural or core dysfunction.

Jamie Swinimer

Jamie is currently a Master's of Kinesiology student and has been working as a personal trainer for just over a year. He teaches progressive strength training to beginners and conducts small group training. His approach to training involves a lot of whole body or upper/lower splits to increase workout frequency and he likes to push clients in their sessions.

Jamie believes working hard is the best way to achieve the goals clients set forth, and he applies that belief to his training sessions.  



Tina De Roo

Tina offers her clients over 12 years of experience in the fitness industry instructing fitness classes, teaching yoga, and personal training. She is currently completing the second year of her Master of Kinesiology at Dalhousie, focused on performance psychology.

Tina values client education and is focused on building a strong core while ensuring quality movements so that clients can train safely and effectively on their own outside of their personal training sessions. She makes training fun for new and experienced exercisers, using humour to lighten even the most challenging moments of a workout.

Outside of personal training, Tina also works as a Mental Performance Consultant with provincial teams and athletes through the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic.  



Omar El-Temtamy

Omar El-Temtamy obtained a kinesiology degree from the University of Toronto and has been in the health & fitness industry for more than five years. He has worked with clients to help them build lean muscle, lose body fat, improve posture and joint mobility, and post natal strengthening. He is passionate about the health benefits of exercise and healthy eating, especially in the areas of the prevention and management of heart disease, stroke, and certain types of cancers, high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis and obesity.

Omar has been involved in competitive sports such as basketball, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, as well as coaching varsity level athletes. He has a deep passion for physical activity to optimize health, enhance movement and prevent injury, which he believes are the cornerstones of training.

Omar is fluent in English and Arabic.



Rachel Rubin-Sarganis

Rachel is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Medical Sciences program at Dalhousie. Her passion for fitness began in Vancouver where she competed as a national level artistic gymnast for 11 years. Rachel is also a gymnastics coach and has been coaching for seven years.

As a personal trainer, Rachel loves to integrate her gymnastics background and passion for health and medicine to help her clients reach their fitness and wellness goals.



Matt Harris

Matt is a CanFitPro Certified Personal Training Specialist studying Kinesiology at Dalhousie.

His approach to training and well-being involves a balance of learning, intensity and fun. All sessions include a focus on skill development and pushing hard enough to create physical change, while keeping a playful attitude to enjoy the gift of movement.  Matt is passionate about mobility training, which combines aspects of flexibility, coordination, balance and body awareness that can alleviate many of the aches and pains individuals experience. 

Matt has long been an avid board sport athlete, pursuing cold water surf throughout New Zealand, Tasmania and both coasts of Canada. His background also includes living in Asia to train and learn martial arts, which he sees as the highest expression of human movement. 

Matt loves to work with a variety of people, with various goals, whether that be weight loss, athletic performance, postural correction or a desire to explore what one can achieve. Matt would be honoured to assist clients in their individual goals toward a healthier, satisfying lifestyle.



Dawn Pickering

Dawn has a Bachelor of Science degree from Dalhousie University and over 25 years of experience in the fitness industry. She has taught all levels, and most types, of group fitness, currently specializing in boot camps, HIIT, and strength classes. Functionality, optimum health, injury reduction, graceful aging, and quality of life are her main personal motivators.  Dawn played many competitive sports, and loves to be outside, hiking, and near the ocean.

As a personal trainer, she works with clients of all ages and fitness levels.  Dawn loves to make fitness fun and develop workouts geared to individuals’ unique goals and lifestyles, whilst providing education and information to allow her clients to make informed decisions.



Denis Ankrah

Denis has been training a diverse range of clients for 3+ years. He has worked with clients aged 15-80 years, and varying from beginner to high performance athletes. Denis specializes in strength training to build muscle and lose fat. His experiences working with diverse clients have also allowed him to develop highly effective programming for those suffering from low back pain, neck pain, poor posture, poor balance, knee pain and hip pain. 

As a former university basketball player, Denis has been able to experience firsthand what it takes to build your body up from the bottom to a high performance level while also learning to prevent and rehab injuries sustained throughout his athletic career. With his diverse skill set you can expect to be progressively challenged through a mix of mobility, resistance and interval based workout routines. Get ready to realize the strength you've always had!
