Changes to Facilities & Services


Due to the coronovirus pandemic many services and facilities will either be altered or not available. Click on the sections below to find out more information. Each section will be updated as we move through our reopening phases. 

We are currently in Phase 4 of our reopening plan.

Wickwire Field - Reopening Phase 1

Wickwire is currently open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 12:30-2:30pm.

Starting Tuesday, September 1, Wickwire Field will fully reopen.

All users must follow their sport's return to play plan and there is a strict limit of 30 people on the field.

Fitness Hall - Reopening Phase 2

Members and students will be required to book a workout appointment for the Fitness Hall. Appointments can be booked up to three (3) days in advance. More information on booking appointments can be found here.

The Fitness Hall will have a limit of 38 members at a time. Members must maintain physical distancing while in Dalplex. 

In order to facilitate the ability to physical distance in the Fitness Hall, not all of the equipment will be available for use. 

Items such as yoga mats, stability balls, medicine/slam balls, stretching tubes/bands, plyometric boxes, etc. will not be available for use.

The following equipment is available for use: 

  • Eight treadmills
  • Six ellipticals 
  • One Stepper 
  • Two Spinner bikes 
  • One Recumbent  bike
  • Two Ergs  
  • One vertical knee up station
  • One back extension station 
  • One Smith rack with limited plates
  • Two bench presses with limited plates and one bar
  • One Olympic shoulder press with limited plates and one bar
  • Two adjustable squat racks with limited plates and one bar
  • One leg press with limited plates
  • Small selection of barbells and curl bars and plates
  • Six dumbbells stations with limited dumbbells  - four at main entry (heavier dumbbells) and two at rear of facility (smaller dumbbells and barbells)
  • Two stretching areas (equipment and mats not provided, please bring your own)

High Performance Room - Reopening Phase 2

The High Performance Room will be open for varsity student-athlete training only

Occupancy is limited to nine (9) (1 coach/trainer and up to 8 student-athletes)

Fitness Studios - Reopening Phase 2

  • In order to comply with the physical distancing rules, there will be a limit to the number of people allowed in a fitness studio. 
  • Members and students are now required to pre-register for a group fitness class. This can be done up to three (3) days in advance of the class. More information on booking fitness classes can be found here. 
  • No equipment will be provided by Dalplex for use in the studios. Members are asked to bring any equipment that they might require (i.e. yoga mat, yoga blocks, skipping rope, dumbbells etc.). 
  • Each studio will have an entrance door and an exit door. Please follow the signage and use the appropriate door. 
  • The spin studio is closed until further notice.

Fieldhouse - Reopening Phase 3

Members and students will be required to book an appointment for the Fieldhouse. Appointments can be booked up to 72 hours in advance. More information on booking appointments can be found here.

Fieldhouse appointments for basketball, badminton, table tennis and the track will be 1 hour (60min) in length. Members are limited to one appointment per day. Please make sure to read our webpage on Things To Know Before you Arrive prior to your first visit to Dalplex. 

Basketball Courts

  • Five (5) half court basketball courts (one net per court) will be available for use.
  • A maximum of two people are permitted to use a court at a time.
  • Please follow directional signage to access the courts through the revolving doors at the top of the ramp.
  • Court selection is on a first-come, first-served basis once you enter the fieldhouse.
  • Equipment will not be provided. Members must bring their own basketball balls.
  • Spectators are not permitted.
  • Please leave your personal belongings near the hoop of your court. It is recommended you leave your valuables at home and bring only what you need to play basketball.

Badminton & Table Tennis Courts

  • Six (6) badminton courts will be available for use.
  • One (1) table tennis table will be available for use.
  • Singles play only. A maximum of two people are permitted to use a court at a time.
  • Please follow directional signage to access the courts through the revolving doors at the top of the ramp.
  • Court selection is on a first-come, first-served basis once you enter the fieldhouse.
  • Equipment will not be provided. Members must bring their own racquets/paddles and shuttles/balls.
  • Spectators are not permitted.
  • Please leave your personal belongings in the designated space against the wall behind your court. We recommend you leave your valuables at home and bring only what you need to play badminton/table tennis.

Indoor Track

  • 10 people will be permitted to train on the indoor track at a time.
  • One-way traffic only. Movement is in a clockwise direction.
  • Passing is to take place in the outside lane.
  • One-way traffic on the stairs to the track.
  • Please leave your personal belongings in the designated space near the elevator at track level. We recommend you leave your valuables at home and bring only what you need to use the track.

Pool - Reopening Phase 3

The pool is scheduled to reopen on August 17, 2020 as part of the third phase of our reopening plan.

Members will be required to book an appointment to use the pool.

  • Members are limited to one appointment per day.
  • Length of appointment time is 60 minutes (1 hour) and includes the time to enter and exit the building.
  • Members will be able to book their appointments online 72 hours in advance, starting August 14, 2020 or by calling 902 494-3372.
  • Members will be required to complete a COVID-19 health screening questionnaire during the booking process.
  • Members who do not show up for their appointments without notice may lose the ability to book future visits.

Members must use their DalCard/membership card to access the facility. Entry will not be permitted without it.

Members must wear a mask to enter the facility and while moving in the building to and from the pool.

Please follow directional signage to access the pool via the spectator entrance as the lower level locker rooms are closed and while on the pool deck.

  • Lane swimming only: short course with sixteen (16) twenty-five metre lanes - one (1) person per lane.
  • Members will be assigned a lane once they arrive on the pool deck.
  • Please enter and exit the pool using the bulkhead. If you are unable to use the bulkhead, please use the ladders closest to the locker rooms.
  • Please swim in the middle of your lane, circle swimming is not permitted.

Equipment will not be provided. Members may bring their own flutter boards and pull-buoys.

  • Snorkels are not permitted.
  • It is recommended that members wear goggles.
  • Spectators are not permitted.
  • Goggles are mandatory for swim team training.

Effective October 27, 2020 locker rooms are open. Limited day use lockers are available. Showers and sauna are still closed.

  • On-deck locker rooms and washrooms will be available with an occupant limit of one (1) person per room at any time.
  • On-deck showers will be available – one (1) person per shower room at any time. As a courtesy to others and to respect the 60-minute appointment time, please limit your time in the showers.

Racquet Sport Courts - Reopening Phase 3

Members and students will be required to book an appointment for the Fieldhouse. Appointments can be booked up to 72 hours in advance. More information on booking appointments can be found here.

All court appointments will be 1 hour (60min) in length. Members are limited to one appointment per day. Please make sure to read our webpage on Things To Know Before you Arrive prior to your first visit to Dalplex. 

Tennis Courts 

  • Both courts are open for use
  • Singles play only (total of two (2) people per court)
  • Tennis Nova Scotia’s Return to Play Guidelines must be followed
  • Members are now required to book their appointments online 72 hours in advance starting August 14, 2020 or by calling 902 494-3372.

Squash and Raquetball Courts 

  • Five (5) squash courts will be available for use.
  • One (1) racquetball court will be available for use.
  • Singles play only. A maximum of two people are permitted to use a court at a time.
  • Court selection is on a first-come, first-served basis once you enter the fieldhouse.
  • Equipment will not be provided. Members must bring their own racquets and balls.
  • Spectators are not permitted.
  • We recommend you leave your valuables at home and bring only what you need to play squash/racquetball.

Users will be required to follow the provincial sport governing body return to play guidelines for each sport.

Lockers, Locker Rooms and Showers - Phase 4

Starting Wednesday, October 28, all locker rooms in Dalplex will be open.
Members will have access to a limited number of day use lockers.
Washrooms will be open in the locker rooms.
Showers and saunas remain closed.

Locker use
Members are welcome to use lockers marked with round day use lockers labels to store their gear but are not permitted to leave items over night. Our regular day use locker rules and regulations apply. Any locks left overnight on day use lockers will be removed along with the contents and held for 14 days before being donated to charity. Please consult the Dalplex Member Handbook for more details on our day use locker policies and procedures.

Hair dryers
The use of Dalplex or personal hair dryers is not permitted at this time.

FIELDHOUSE ACCESS
Members with appointments in the fieldhouse will NOT be able to gain entry through the lower level locker rooms and must continue to use the revolving doors at the top of the ramp.

POOL ACCESS
Members should now access the pool through the lower level men’s and women’s locker rooms. The lower level universal locker room will also be open.

Once you have changed, members should make their way down to the pool and wait at the bottom of the stairs until a lifeguard opens the gate.

Please proceed to the lifeguard office to check in for your appointment BEFORE proceeding to your lane.

Members are still permitted to bring their belongings down to the pool deck by using the bag drop area behind their respective lanes.

Masks MUST be worn while moving to and from the locker rooms and pool.

Entering from the lower level universal locker room
Once you have changed, turn left when you exit the locker room and follow signs for the pool. Once you reach the bottom of the stairs and have entered the pool area, please follow the signs to gain access to the pool deck. You will NOT be able to gain access to the pool from the stairs in the bleachers.

Please proceed to the lifeguard office to check in for your appointment BEFORE proceeding to your lane.

Members are still permitted to bring their belongings down to the pool deck by using the bag drop area behind their respective lanes.

Memberships and Day Passes

Fees

We suspended all monthly membership and service payments as of April 1, 2020.

The collection of membership fees to Dalplex will commence September 1, 2020.

Members who are uncomfortable returning to the gym may freeze their membership. Call 902 494-3372 for details.

Day passes, multi-use passes or walk-ins are not be accepted at this time.

Member Services
The suspension of fees for locker rentals and towel services will remain in place until we are able to offer those services again.

We are still unable to allow anyone direct access to their locker. In order to properly clean and sanitize the locker rooms and lockers for use in the future, we need to empty them.

We are in the process of reaching out to arrange for pickup of the items currently in rental lockers. Current renters will be able to keep the same locker number when we are able to offer the service again.
