Dalplex offers a wide array of fitness classes and programs led by a team of top quality, energetic instructors, with over 35 classes available per week. Our goal is to meet your health and wellness needs through a knowledgeable, friendly and professional approach to fitness. We encourage you to ask questions, get to know our instructors and attend a variety of classes to find out what you like best.

Fitness classes may move to the Studley Gymnasium or Dance Studio during exam periods, special events, etc.

Tips for New Participants

  • All classes are on a drop-in basis - no pre-registration is required.
  • Remember to wear comfortable, cool clothing, athletic footwear, and bring water.
  • Start gradually and work at your own pace.
  • Beginners are welcome at all classes, but many will find Body Trim, Aquafit, Yogaflex and Beginner Step good introductory classes to start with.
  • It is helpful to arrive a few minutes early for all classes and to plan to stay until the end.

Fitness Class Descriptions

Please note: the classes listed below are not necessarily offered every term. Please consult the fitness schedule for the most up-to-date information.

A cardiovascular class that will have you kicking and punching your way to a better you! All parts of a traditional workout are covered in this high energy class: warm up, 25-30 minutes of cardiovascular routines, cool down, muscular endurance, and stretching.

Leave the running shoes behind and join the growing numbers in the pool for a terrific cardiovascular workout that provides less stress on the joints while firming muscles thanks to water's natural resistance (deep and shallow water classes offered). Aquafit is suitable for participants of all ages.No swimming skills required.

Belly Fit
Expect a great cardio workout combining the fun of dance aerobics inspired by Belly dance, African Dance and Bollywood, with the mindfulness of Pilates and the spiritual integrity of Yoga.

Body Strong
Improve muscle tone while working your body from head to toe. This class uses hand held weights and resistance tubing as well as body weight exercises to provide a challenging and fun workout. Class includes warm up, cool down, and floor work with abdominal training and stretching.

Cardio Strength
If you're looking for a full-body workout, look no further! Cardio Strength is an interval class, alternating cardio and strength. Class includes floor aerobics, step, skipping--as well as head-to-toe muscular strength and endurance exercises using body weight and dumbbells.

Dance your way to fitness with simple choreography –current music, fun moves, interspersed with muscle toning. A full body workout including core workout.

Essentrics is a full body workout that rapidly changes the shape of your body through a dynamic combination of strengthening and stretching. The technique develops lean, strong and flexible muscles with immediate changes to your posture. Perfect for men and women of all fitness levels, this program rebalances the body, prevents and treats injuries and unlocks tight joints. With a diverse music playlist accompanying each routine, this equipment-free workout leaves you feeling energized, youthful and healthy.

Group Force
Head to toe strengthening using the adjustable bar. Exercise routines are basic so that you can improve form and increase strength. The adjustable bar is versatile and fun to use for a workout that targets all major muscle groups. Weight is easily added or removed. Class may include dumbbells and resistance tubing exercises for variety, but will focus primarily on bar. Class includes warm up, cool down, and floor work.

Happy Hour
The perfect after-work workout, Happy Hour is a short, moderate-intensity workout designed to shake off the stresses of the day. Using fun, simple choreographed moves, participants will work up a sweat without jumping or sprinting. Working out with music will help sweep away the fatigue of the workday, and you might be surprise at how much energy you actually have!

Interval Express
A 45 minute workout that alternates cardio with body weight exercises such as squats and lunges. Make the most of a quick workout that is inclusive— cardio and strength exercises will be demonstrated at beginner to advanced levels.

Older Adult Strength Training
The Older Adult classes target the forty five plus population, but we welcome participants of any age who have health or injury concerns, and who are looking for a slower paced class with lots of instruction. The exercises are primarily dumbbell exercises that improve balance, function and posture. Class pacing allows time to meet and greet new and old friends.

Older Adult Yogaflex
Yogaflex class for older adults helps with breathing, balance, flexibility and relaxation. This class is a chair Yoga class, which offers participants an opportunity to explore Yoga poses with less strain and more success. Standing poses are included. Gentle, slower paced yoga suitable for participants of all ability and experience levels. Participants are encouraged to explore the benefits of working with a chair, but options for not using a chair are provided.

Strength Circuit
Shake up your toning routine and shape up your body. A variety of toning exercises will fatigue all the major muscle groups. Tubing, weights and body weight will be incorporated in a circuit routine for each targeted muscle group.

Class begins with a thorough warm-up that prepares you for a thorough work out! Exercises are performed in short bursts of high intensity followed by short rest periods. Each exercise is introduced in level of difficulty, from beginner to advanced, enabling everyone from the new exerciser to the more experienced participant to workout at their own level. Pairs of exercises are repeated several times, then a new pair is introduced, for a simple, no choreography class.

Take time to focus on posture, balance, breathing while improving your strength and flexibility with a variety of yoga poses. Instructors are certified fitness leaders with yoga backgrounds. Postures are demonstrated at levels ranging from beginner to advanced. Walk away feeling more relaxed and refreshed.

Zumba ®
Learn to loosen up the hips and shoulders and shake and shimmy your way to a great cardio workout. Zumba is a low impact floor aerobics class with a warm up and cool down, spiced up with Latin music and a blend of Latin style dance movements. Highly energetic and fun!

A simple, no choreography workout that challenges your cardiovascular system with hills and drills. The 45 minute class format includes warm up, cool down and standing stretch. Participants work at their own level while experiencing the motivation of group exercise. Includes instruction of how to adjust seat and handlebars for the most comfortable ride, as well as tips on adjusting intensity. Suitable for participants of all fitness levels.

Step adds the element of intensity without impact, and is a great way to get the heart rate up while toning the thighs. For die hard step lovers as well as those new to the Aerobic step. Step height is adjustable, to accommodate participants of various heights as well as different levels of experience and fitness. Cool down includes toning, stretch, and core work.
