Women's Volleyball Alumni Weekend
Katya Sodamin - February 8, 2012
The women’s volleyball team invites you to join them this Friday, February 10 at Dalplex after their game versus UNB to recognize Dalhousie alumni in their inaugural Women’s Volleyball Honour Society induction.
A special post-game ceremony on Friday will celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the 1982 Dalhousie Tigers team who won the CIAU national championship and two outstanding members of the gold medal team, Karen (Fraser) Moore and Karin Maessen.
During her time at Dalhousie Karen was a three-time CIAU (CIS) all-star, a five-time conference all-star, named the league’s most valuable player and received Dalhousie’s Class of ’55 award (1986). After her career with the Tigers Karen went on to represent Canada at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California.
Karin competed for the Tigers for five years and was a three-time Dalhousie’s Class of ’55 award recipient (1977, 1981 and 1982) and a four-time team most valuable player. She was recognized locally as a conference all-star five times and a CIAU all-star three times. In 1982 Karin was named the CIAU Player of the Year. Beyond Dalhousie Karen continued her volleyball career with the Canadian national team and competed in three world championships as well as other global contests.
Festivities for women’s volleyball alumni will continue on Saturday with an alumni game at Dalplex in the afternoon and a special dinner that evening.
Tigers head coach Rick Scott says, "We are very excited about the upcoming Dalhousie Tigers Women's Volleyball Alumni Weekend. The women's volleyball program has a rich and deep history and this weekend will be a great recognition of this."
