Legge returns to lineup

Dalhousie University women’s basketball head coach Anna Stammberger is pleased to announce the return of Alex Legge to the Tigers roster for the second half of the season.

A native of Mahone Bay, NS, Alex previously played four seasons for the black and gold from 2006-10 and rejoins the team after taking time off to recover from knee surgery and focus on her studies. Last season Alex served as an assistant coach for the team and began her medical degree at Dalhousie. The course load in Dalhousie’s medical school was incredibly demanding this past fall, delaying her return to the team until now.

“It was a very difficult decision for me to sit out the first half of the season to focus on medical school, so I can't wait to be back on the court with my teammates,” says Alex. “This year's team is a very talented group of athletes and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to join them for my final year of CIS eligibility.”

Alex has an impressive list of accolades including being named the AUS rookie of the year (2006-07) and an AUS first-team all-star (2007-08). In her fourth year with the Tigers (2009-10), she received the AUS women’s basketball Student Athlete & Community Service Award and was recognized as one of the CIS Desjardins Top 8 Academic All-Canadians. She was consistently on the Faculty of Science Dean’s List over her four years at Dalhousie, was the 2008-09 recipient of the Dalhousie University President’s Award for excellence in athletics, academics, leadership and community service, and was the winner of the 2009-10 James Bayer Memorial Scholarship.

Head coach Anna Stammberger says, "We're very excited about Alex’s return to the Tigers! Alex is a welcome addition to our young, athletic and talented team. Her experience and leadership both on and off the court will benefit everyone and I'm thrilled to have such an outstanding academic and athletic role model for our younger student-athletes."

You can catch Alex and the rest of the women’s basketball Tigers in action at Dalplex on January 14 at 6pm versus the Saint Mary’s Huskies. This weekend the team will be on the road to face the Memorial Sea-Hawks in Newfoundland.
