Changes in Dalhousie’s Department of Athletics and Recreational Services

Staff - January 26, 2012

As released on Monday, former Director John MacDonald has decided to move on to explore other career options and as such there are changes underway in Dalhousie’s Department of Athletics and Recreational Services.

Karen Moore will be taking on the role of Director, Varsity Athletics to lead the Dalhousie Tigers varsity program while Shawn Fraser will continue to oversee recreation and intramural programming. Pat Nearing will continue to oversee programs on the Sexton campus while Dalplex and all facility services and operations will fall within Kathie Wheadon-Hore’s area of responsibility and Krista Cross will continue to lead the marketing, communications and events for the department. Each of these areas will report through to the Assistant Vice President, Student Affairs.

Much work has been done on improving our student recreation and varsity programs, on engaging the Tigers athletes throughout Dalhousie’s broad array of student life activities, and on quality improvement to Dalhousie’s sport facilities. We are moving forward aggressively to fast-track planning for the new Fitness Centre and facility support for Wickwire Field and the plans for the new ice arena. As we ramp up the quality of our facilities and focus on excellence in all our services and teams, the next few years will be very exciting times for Dalhousie’s Department of Athletics and Recreational Services. We thank you for your continued support as we look ahead to a promising future!
